Her unfortunate upbringing helps her mature and become a better person later on in her life. During her childhood, Jeannette and her family continuously move from one place to another causing her lifestyle to be very confusing and very unstable. Jeannette faces many obstacles end-to-end her life but she manages to persevere. One main obstacle is her parents; her contract is an alcoholic and her mother is lazy and cannot hold a stable job. referable to the lack of parenting in Jeannettes family, Jeannette has to mature at a very young age. When she graduates from high school she moves to in the alto engenderher York City with her siblings so that she can actually make something of her life. Jeanette has to hired hand with many tough situations throughout her childhood but she manages to get through them all. Fortunately, Jeannette ends up successful because she is able to overcome all the hardships that occur throughout her life.
One of the main obstacles Jeannette faces throughout her integral childhood is the constant moving from one town to the near every time her father is uncomfortable in a situation. In the novel this is known as the skedaddle.



Due to the lack of money the Walls family has and the amount of passel who are later Jeannettes father to pay bills and what not, the skedaddle happens very often. At the beginning of the novel Jeannette says to the readers, We were always doing the skedaddle, usually in the gist of the night. I sometimes heard mom and dad discussing the people who were after us. (Walls, 19). This quotation shows how dysfunctional and irresponsible her parents are.
