Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespe be and first produced in London in 1595. It has become one of the most far-famed tragedies in history and its theme of star crossd cognisers has been the basis of many stories, films and musicals. In 1997, over 400 historic period later, Baz Luhrmann represented Shakespe ars ancient story of tragic love with an aim to make it appeal to a younger, 20th nose candy audience. In Act 3 scene 1, the scene where Mercutio is killed by Tybalt, guns are used instead of swords and the characters are dressed in modern day clothes but it is not all modern as the ancient ruined theatre contrasts old Verona with modern Verona beach. The use of the old theatre shows us that this modern Romeo and Juliet isnt the original version but ut was once aplay. In doing this, TH Luhrmann pays respect to Shakespeare.
