History of the CDC
The founder of the CDC Dr. Joseph W. Mountin organized the Communicable Disease Center (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia on July 1, 1946 on one floor of a small building downtown Atlanta. This agency descended from the wartime agency Malaria Control in War Areas (MCWA) and initially think on fighting malaria by killing mosquitoes. During the early years of the CDC over 50% of their personnel spent their time guidance on the malaria than every other subject. Dr. Mountin was not live up to with the progress of the CDC he expected more. He informed his staff that aside from tuberculosis and venereal diseases the CDC would be responsible for any communicable disease. Dr. Mountin felt in order for his agency to suffer they had to become a center for epidemiology a scientific order used to control and prevent a particular health problem within a population.
