Faking In Television

Faking is inevitable in television. In fact, all television is fake, and audiences ar happy for it to be so.
With ever increasing competition, television conduct have to find different tricks to increase their viewership and to fill up timeslots. Faking is one of the most common tricks. I have centre mainly on reality shows, live telecast and give-and-take telecast for this discussion. I have excluded soap operas or parable because fiction can have the liberty to divert from reality.
Faking in television can be classified into two full categories. Harmless faking and harmful faking. The opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics was mayhap the worlds biggest TV show. It was witnessed by nearly 15% of worlds total population. (Goldsmith B., expansive 11, 2008). Viewers intercontinental were stunned by spectacular fireworks, which in fact, were fake! They were graphically generated to ensure safety of camera operators and audiences loved watching it. (Spencer R., August 10,2008). This can be considered as an example of harmless faking.
On the other hand, fake or exaggerated news that would disruption rumours, create sensation or panic are not good for the wellbeing of the society. Paid news or pay exit polls during elections showing bias to a true political party for instance is an example of unfair faking. (Quraishi S.



, 2011). As far as reality shows are concerned, it is an open mystery that they are scripted. It is essential for them to fake things in tell to suffer the audience interest alive. But it must be ensured that no ones sentiments are hurt because of frankenbiting, overdubbing or delusory montages. (Poniewozik J. and McDowell J., 2006).
So it becomes a dual responsibility for television producers to keep in line that they keep the interest of audiences alive without causing ill effectuate to the society. If they are successful in keeping the balance right, audiences anticipate happy and channels run well even if they overspread fake things.
