Comics are a mixture of words and art working together to show a situation, communicate an intellection or tell a accounting. It is hard to define comics, you may check out that my definition should include affairs akin instructions, and my answer would real be yes. There are a wide wander of opinions on what exactly comics are. To be h whizst, putting together a class on them seems like a class where you could never have everyone satisfied with what you covered.
What would I include in a cut based on my definition of the word? completely of the standards, of course, newspaper comics, graphic novels, comic books, etc… Under my definition instructions, like the manuals in airplanes, would be called comics. They do communicate an idea by pictures and words working together. They just arent interesting, so I would exclude them from the course. Childrens books also fall into a exchangeable category. By my definition they are comics. They tell a story just like other comics, but with larger pictures and a nontraditional layout. However, they are not relevant to the comic creative activity and the general population probably wouldnt return of them as comics, so why include them in a course? Also, editorial cartoons would be included.
They use send offs and text to display a situation that makes you destine a certain way.
An important thing to think about while defining comics is the importance of the musical arrangement of images in a sequence versus the combination of pictures and text. Personally, I think that anything that falls under my definition of comics that is not an arrangement of images is an image that said all it needed to say in one image. To some it could make a difference though. Should pictures and situational images be much dominant than text? Would images that rely on text more to explain an image not be comics then?
