John Steinbeck opens The Grapes of Wrath with great imagery, describing to the lector, the desolate and barren aim that the Midwest had become. The surface of the earth crusted, a thin ruffianly crust, and as the sky became pale, the earth became pale, pink in the vehement country and white in the gray country. (3) Throughout the book, genius comes to know the farmers, as well as coming to adopt about their hardships. However, Steinbeck does not portray in detail the person-to-person difficulties of the men who evict the farmers, nor of the conflicted neighbors who plow down their farms. His sympathies clearly pillow with the farmers, and his descriptive eye follows these sympathies. Correspondingly, it is with these families that the reader comes to identify. Knowing this, it is clear that while the book may be a celebration of America, it is as well as a condemnation. One catch outs one side of the story quite than learning the story from many sides. We do not see the side of businesses as they struggle throughout the 1930s. The only interpretation that one will get of business is those trying to get the farms. One even gets a glimpse of those trying to shop products to farmers moving to the west. However, any glimpse into the business world that one gets while reading, is described as being corrupt and evil.
Steinbeck shows to the reader the hardships of the road. He portrays the economic hardships that the farmers go through, which can often shit ugliness, disparity, and even ______, yet at the same time steady can create an unexpected beauty. Using examples such as the Joads journey to California, Steinbeck is very clear in identifying the culprit in their hardships. He makes it very clear to the reader that capitalism and somatic interests are a great source in kind-hearted tragedy. Once again, the reader gets a feel from the story that it is none other than businesses that are controlling the country at the time, reservation sure that farmers and small farm workers suffer.
